  • Proficient at take-offs of Electrical Drawings
  • Work closely with Senior Estimators/Project Managers to create a bid strategy, techniques, etc.
  • Review bid package blueprints and drawings
  • Calculate quantity take-off detailing all the materials and supplies necessary for the contract to achieve specification
  • Review take-offs checking for mathematical and technical accuracy
  • Liaise with suppliers and collect quotes on materials

We are looking for a Structural Steel Estimator to join our team under the general supervision of the Estimation Manager.

Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for structural steel construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications
  • Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and conduct negotiations
  • Establish and maintain tendering process
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
  • Co-ordinate structural steel construction projects
  • Thoroughly analysis of documentation to gain a deep understanding of requirements
  • Visit sites, warehouses and other venues necessary to do the estimate
  • Conduct complex risk analysis activities
  • Create and present reports to upper management
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with the key vendors
  • Understand contractual terms and conditions
  • Assemble accurate and well-organized estimates and proposals in a timely manner for Stipulated Price, Design-Build and Construction/Project Management formatted projects
  • Provide clear detailed quantity take offs
  • Organize sub-contractor’s quotations, negotiate to ensure quotes meet contract documents and issue proper documented purchase orders
  • Complete Budgeting and Scheduling for projects and track same. Monitor progress, requisition change orders and identify any potential risks
  • Ensure site personnel are provided with proper documentation related to project
  • Work with and deal with concerns of field personnel
  • Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labour costing
  • Formulate cost break down from estimates and for project progress
  • Meet with potential clients to discuss options for proposed services
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications Required:

 

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Ability to demonstrate long-term work authorization without restrictions in Canada
  • Must live in Winnipeg, Manitoba or surrounding area
  • Has their own transportation as bus transportation is not available
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Project
  • Professional, approachable and customer-service oriented
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Good mathematical and analytical skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Understand and provide value engineering opportunities
  • Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail
  • Experience and proficiency with estimating and computer software packages would be an asset (i.e. Accubid, Quickpen, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Applicants with trade qualifications and related estimating experience may also be considered
  • The ideal candidate will also have experience with SharePoint and Advanced Excel skills.

As a valued member of the team, your core responsibilities will include:

 

  • Maintain a presence in the field on a daily basis.
  • Develop and implement the Site-Specific HSE Plans
  • Monitor compliance with the HSE Management System & Client’s Processes, including subcontractors.
  • Support Construction Management regarding HSE accountabilities and implementation of HSE practices and procedures
  • Conduct site inspections and incident investigations
  • Prepare site HSE statistical information as required
  • Coordinate, develop and deliver safety training and safety orientations and other training as applicable
  • Facilitate site HSE meetings and ensure HSE deliverables are met
  • Develop job hazard analysis together with project team
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

The following qualifications are required of the successful candidate:

 

  • Designation as either a CRSP, NCSO or CHSC
  • 5+ years safety related work experience in industrial construction
  • CSTS, SCOT and WHMIS 2015 certified
  • Standard First Aid Certified
  • COR Auditor
  • Independent, self-motivated, team player and a leader
